THE ART COLLECTION
Originally hired as the backup band for Ray Columbus, a mod chart-topper in his native New Zealand who relocated in 1966 to the peninsula just south of San Francisco, the Art Collection were good enough to make it on their own. When Columbus went back Down Under, Rich and Tom Martin, formerly of San Mateo's New Impressions and Newcastle Five, took the reins of the Art Collection and proved they could recreate the eye-opening Who Sell Out sound better than anybody this side of Pete Townshend.
