GANDALF |
| With its exotically atmospheric songs changing in the blink of an eye from soft dreamscapes to blistering fuzz-guitar lead breaks, Gandalf cast a powerful spell over the bubbling world of psychedelia in the late-'60s. Fed by the unique vision of singer/songwriter Peter Sando, the New Jersey-based combo excelled at melding multi-hued swirls of Hammond organ with delicate layers of vibraphone and electric sitar. Through live shows at Greenwich Village's fabled Night Owl Cafe, the same place that had once nurtured the Lovin' Spoonful, Gandalf hooked up with Spoonful producers Koppelman and Rubin, and their singular sound was captured for eternity. |
