The Lovin' Spoonful

One of the first homegrown American bands to achieve prominence in the heady days of the British Invasion, the Lovin' Spoonful effortlessly bridged commercial success and musical credibility, merging good-timey pop-rock tunes with material that showcased the band members' folk, blues and jug-band roots. The effervescent foursome of frontman John Sebastian, guitarist Zal Yanovsky, bassist Steve Boone and drummer Joe Butler formed in 1965 and quickly made their name on the Greenwich Village club scene. Before the year was out, the Spoonful had already signed to the Kama Sutra label and scored their first Top 10 hit with "Do You Believe in Magic?" The band continued to storm the singles charts with such infectious tunes as "Summer in the City," "Daydream," "You Didn't Have to Be So Nice" and," "Nashville Cats," while making memorable albums that showed off Sebastian's songwriting prowess and the band's varied instrumental talents. Now, Sundazed has revived the Lovin' Spoonful's beloved vintage albums, mastered from the original tapes and featuring complete original cover art.
