The Astronauts

Boulder, Colorado’s Astronauts didn’t let the mountainous environs of their home base keep them from being one of the best surf/hot rod combos of the early 1960s. In addition to rocking many a campus frat party and charting with 1963’s Lee Hazlewood-penned “Baja,” the Astronauts worked with LA studio titans Roger Christian and Gary Usher on a clutch of LPs that now command sky-high prices on the collector’s market. Judging by the pavement-scorching tracks on Sundazed’s exact vinyl replica of ’64’s Competition Coupe, it’s easy to hear why.
