To chart statisticians, Eddie Cochran came and went in a blur. His first hit was in the spring of 1957; his last was in the fall of 1959. Only one of his seven hits made the Top 10. It all goes to show that statistics don't tell half the story. Eddie Cochran was no pre-assembled teen idol with a handful of hits. He was on top of all elements of his music in a way that few early rock 'n' rollers were, and, as the music changed, he seemed to have a vision of how its brattish immediacy could adapt to changing times.
