The late, great composer/pianist/producer/MENSA member Tandyn Almer first emerged in pop culture consciouness as the writer of the 1966 smash single by The Association, "Along Comes Mary." If this were a Hollywood film script, Almer would have then been catapulted to the upper echelons of pop stardom. Instead, his career path took a much more enigmatic route… [COMPLETE INFO]

As these musical neophytes would soon learn, it wasn't as easy as it initially appeared. The Kustom Kings
Kustom City U.S.A.
LP - $18.98
By 1964, Bruce Johnston was already a proven veteran. Following up the success of The Rip Chords collaboration with Terry Melcher and its hit single "Hey Little Cobra," Johnston revved up The Kustom Kings. With a mission statement "to present the most authentic hot rod album on the market," the Kustom City U.S.A. album brought together an all-star team. or added authenticity, car designer George Barris, "THE KING OF THE KUSTOMIZERS," jumped on board as a special adviser. The Missing Links
The Missing Links LP
with bonus The Links Unchained 7" EP
LP - $21.98 WITH BONUS 7" EP
Though they have different approaches, a common thread runs through Australian bands like the Saints, Hoodoo Gurus, Midnight Oil and AC/DC: an aggressive, take-no-prisoners posture designed to grab audiences by the throat. This direct crowd-band interaction is essential on the rough-and-tumble Oz pub circuit, where if the group doesn't deliver the goods, they're likely to go down in a hail of lager cans. For proof, check the wild, outrageous sounds of the Missing Links. [COMPLETE INFO]

Freddy King
Freddy King Goes Surfin'
LP - $21.98 Pressed at RTI
King Records released Freddy King Goes Surfin', an album containing the very same songs (in precisely the same running order) as Freddy King's Let's Hide Away... with crowd noise dubbed over the music. Though it didn't sell as well as the original, Freddy King Goes Surfin' did find an audience. Like Bo Diddley Is a Gunslinger, the album's title is such a preposterous premise that it surely snagged many buyers on that fact alone. [COMPLETE INFO]

Albert King
The Big Blues
• LP - $21.98 Pressed at RTI
Standing well over six feet and weighing in at around 250 pound, Albert King cut an imposing visual figure. Still, he made an even bigger impression through his recordings, reaching fans all over the world with his punchy, aggressive guitar playing and his commanding voice. His debut album, The Big Blues, is a dynamic mix of twelve vocal and instrumental tracks, ten of which were self-composed. Backed by a razor sharp band, which included Ike Turner on piano, King showed an authoritative command of ballads, rumbas and mid-tempo shuffles.

SIMO
Shake It / AOH
• 7" Single - $8.98

Adjusting for population growth, there are...well, a BUNCH more than the thirteen hundred and fifty-two Music City guitar pickers John Sebastian wrote about in 1966. Indeed, guitar-toting cats in Nashville outnumber the pickup trucks and that's saying something. It's also saying something that, in a city full of six-string savants, there is one guitarist all the other guitarists watch in awe. A player who can float a gentle, lilting line and then launch a ferocious fretboard attack in the space of a few measures. A multi-talented axeman like J.D. Simo. [COMPLETE INFO]

THE SEE SEE

The Sonics
You Got Your Head On Backwards / Love Lights
• 7" Single - $8.98 COLORED VINYL
In their mid-’60s heyday, the Sonics pioneered a wildly aggressive, distortion-laden style that set a widely emulated standard for propulsive punk raunch. Driven by the commanding, blood-curdling howl of Gerry Roslie and the raucous, screaming guitar of Larry Parypa, the Tacoma, Washington quintet pioneered a pummeling, primitive and supremely infectious sound that served as the blueprint for multiple generations of garage, punk and grunge combos, none of whom ever quite managed to equal the Sonics’ feral ferocity. [COMPLETE INFO]

The Sonics
The Witch / Like No Other Man 7” Single
• 7" Single - $8.98 COLORED VINYL
The song that originally put the Sonics on the map is the immortal underground anthem "The Witch." Recorded in July 1964 and driven by a bulldozing volley of drums, a brutally insistent guitar/sax riff and a possessed Gerry Roslie vocal, the song offered a darker, nastier alternative to the relatively well-groomed sounds of the British Invasion. It's prime, primal Sonics mayhem, with a sublimely swaggering B-side in "Like No Other Man." [COMPLETE INFO]
The Sonics
Psycho / Maintaining My Cool
• 7" Single - $8.98 COLORED VINYL
If one were forced to name one song that exemplifies the Sonics' revolutionary garage-punk sound, one would have to choose the band's nerve-crushing, soul-shattering 1964 landmark "Psycho." Boasting a drunkenly careening sax, a rampaging rhythm section and a wailing, throat-shredding vocal, this enduring classic is paired here with the attitudinal anthem "Maintaining My Cool," which is widely regarded as one of the crowning achievements of the Sonics' Jerden years. Sundazed presents the second installment in its landmark Jimi Hendrix singles series, which honors the legendary guitar icon’s singular musical genius by presenting it in the same medium in which it was originally experienced by fans: vinyl. The Isley Brothers
Twist & Shout
 LP - $18.98

The Isley Brothers are one of the most enduring and influential acts in American music, building a prodigious body of innovative, infectious work that’s broadened rhythm and blues’ creative boundaries while keeping the combo at the forefront for more than half a century. For many listeners, though, there’s no beating the Isleys’ raw, raucous early work, which combined gospel fervor and roadhouse grit to create rousing, transcendent music. The Isley Brothers’ 1962 hit “Twist & Shout” marked a crucial breakthrough for the legendary trio. [COMPLETE INFO]

The Knickerbockers
Jerk and Twine Time MONO EDITION
 LP - $18.98

Although the Knickerbockers hailed from Bergenfield, New Jersey, anyone listening to the radio in early 1966 would have sworn that they were from Liverpool. That’s when the band’s overpoweringly infectious signature tune “Lies” stormed the AM airwaves, convincing many stateside listeners that they were hearing a fab new Beatles single. Jerk and Twine Time emphasizes the raw immediacy of the Knickerbockers’ origins as a live band. Beyond the dance-craze anthem “Jerk Town” and the venerable R&B instrumental “Twine Time.” [COMPLETE INFO]

The Knickerbockers
Lies MONO EDITION
LP - $18.98
The Lies LP, recorded in Hollywood with songwriting contributions from the likes of Glen Campbell, Jim Seals and Jerry Fuller, surrounds its iconic title hit with an eclectic assortment of tunes, including the catchy melodic gems “I Can Do It Better” and “Just One Girl." Although they ironically rode the faux-English sound of “Lies” to chart success, the Knickerbockers were actually seasoned live performers who were adept at whipping Garden State crowds into a frenzy long before the British Invasion hit U.S. shores.
